Truly, the life of this world has deceived us

Amazing how this life deceives us... We worry about tomorrow as if it's guaranteed. We cry over things which may never become ours. The future scares us. We save up for a rainy day which we may never see. We know we can't have everything we want but we still try and we forget that ultimately, none of this is in our hands...

“And you cannot will unless (it be) that Allaah wills, the Lord of the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists)” - [al-Takweer 81:29]

We become angry and begin to question our faith when things don't go the way we imagined them in our heads.

"But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not." - [ 2:216 ]

We want comfort and ease without making any sacrifices.

"Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said,"When is the help of Allah ?" Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near." - 2:214

We rely upon and ask from those we consider powerful whilst we forget the One who created them.

“And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright” - [al-Baqarah 2:186]

We ask for the good in this dunya but forget to be of those who say:

“Our Lord, give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire” (al-Baqarah 2:201).

We become so occupied with wealth and trade that we forget about He Who grants us success in it in the first place.  Thus we forget to be of:

“Men whom neither trade nor sale (business) diverts from the remembrance of Allaah” [al-Noor 24:37].

We await the harvest of Jannah whilst planting the seeds of hellfire.  Truly, the life of this world has deceived us…

“Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. (It is) as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers - evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers - good-doers). And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment.” [57:20]
