Every single one of us is facing a test in one way or another...

Every single one of us is facing a test in one way or another. Do not look at others and think why is Allah testing me but favouring him/her? Why is it that they get so much but me, who stays up the nights, fasts during the day, gives in charity, upholds the honour of his brother and does so much more but gets much less in terms of wealth, health, property etc?

In reality, there isn’t a moment in our lives where we’re not being tested. Some people are tested by poverty. Their test is patience and tawakkul. Others are tested by wealth. How they earned it and how they spent it. Some are tested by illnesses whilst others are tested by good health and how they utilised their good health. Some are tested with blindness whilst others are tested by their eye sight and what they used their eyes to look at. Some want children but are unable to conceive. Others have children but are tested by how they bring them up and what they teach them. Think of ANY perceived negative and you’ll find a test in its complete opposite.

It’s a shame that we read the verses of Allah on a daily basis but forget their meaning when we’re tested. Allah (swt) says:

“And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As‑ Saabiroon (the patient)” [al-Baqarah 2:155]

Allah is telling us that we WILL be tested, but, He (swt) does not stop there. He also tells us what we should do during our tests and trials: be patient. How beautiful and wise were the words of our habeeb (peace be upon him) when he said:

“How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for all of it is good, and that applies to no one except the believer. If something good happens to him he gives thanks, and that is good for him, and if something bad befalls him he bears it with patience, and that is good for him.” (Narrated by Muslim, 2999).

Wallahi, how amazing is that. There is nothing but good in every situation for a believer. May Allah make us of those who are patient during our trials and thankful during our ease, comfort and blessings.
