Be Careful About The Good Deeds You Share

In the age of Facebook, Twitter, Insta and Snapchat, it can be very tempting to post all our good deeds for the world to see and to gain recognition from people. At times we may go many a mile to make a certain deed we’ve done, be known to the maximum amount of people.  In turn, casting serious doubt on our intention for performing that deed.  Just like we go the extra mile to publicise our deeds, the sahabah would go even further to make their deeds secret, yet, look at how Allah honoured them that their good deeds are still being discussed today. How?

Know for certain my dear brother or sister, the very people who learnt about your good deed via your status update on Facebook, had Allah willed for them to know about this deed, they would absolutely 100% known about it had you not posted it on Facebook or publicised it in any other way. Yes! Be absolutely certain that your good deeds WILL DEFINITELY be known to the people Allah has chosen to know. Want proof? Let’s take the following as an example:

There is a story of a poor, blind, old woman living in the outskirts of Madinah. Every morning, `Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (RA), used to go to her house to see if she needed anything. But he always found that someone else had come before him and given her all that she needed.

`Umar (RA) wanted to find out who this person was, so one morning he went there earlier than he usually did to find that the man who visited the old lady every morning was Abu Bakr (RA).

Look at how Abu Bakr (RA) concealed this great action of his, yet, Allah had willed for it to be known and look at how it’s known today. So the next time any of us has the urge to do an act of Ibadah for fame, publicity or to gain people’s recognition, let us remember that the very people we want to reach, will most definitely know about our action if Allah has willed for them to know.  Let us also be certain that the people Allah has not willed for to know, will never know no matter how many status updates, tweets or pictures we post…

May Allah grant us sincerity and make our greatest aim to earn His recognition and not that of His creation.
