The Little Explorer’s Guide To: Jerash - Jordan

Jerash, known as the Roman city of Gerasa, has some of the most spectacular Roman ruins in Jordan in my opinion.  Jerash is only 30 miles from Amman and also very close to Ajloun.  Majority of the ancient city was destroyed in an earthquake in 749 and further damage was done in another earthquake in 847.
A number of excavations have been conducted since 2011 and continue to today.  These excavations have uncovered a mixture of Greco-Roman world, ancient traditions of Arabs and Islamic/Mamluk artefacts.

Among the ruins, you’ll find the spectacular Oval Forum, Colonnaded Streets, An amphitheatre, a HUGE arch, Roman columns and much more.

This is one site well worth visiting.
