Friday Reminder

Friday Reminder: For myself first and foremost. Isn't it amazing when we go through some difficulty in life or want something that we turn to Allah with full sincerity, yet, if Allah eases our difficulty or grants us that which we want, we tend to forget about Him and decrease in our ibaadah. The following Ayaahs, though speaking about mushrikeen, should be a wake up call for us all:

"He it is Who enables you to travel through land and sea, till when you are in the ships, and they sail with them with a favourable wind, and they are glad therein, then comes a stormy wind and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think that they are encircled therein. Then they invoke Allah, making their Faith pure for Him Alone, (saying): "If You (Allah) deliver us from this, we shall truly be of the grateful." But when He delivers them, behold! they rebel (disobey Allah) in the earth wrongfully…" [10: 22-23]

A difficulty can be a blessing in disguise if it makes you turn to Allah but we must ensure that our sudden closeness does not result in just a temporary increase in ibaadah. I leave you with the words of Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah (RH):

‘A calamity that makes you turn to Allah is better for you than a blessing which makes you forget the remembrance of Allah.’
