Resolving to do something for Allah's sake

How many times in life have we taken a firm resolve to do something for the sake of Allah and immediately faced some tests?  Sometimes these will come in the form of perfectly halal ways, other times, in the form of haraam opportunities.

For example, you may have decided to donate a large sum of money to a charitable cause but then all of a sudden, that new car you've had your eyes on for a while drops in price. You may have decided to use the money you've been saving for a while to perform Hajj, but then that holiday you promised your spouse suddenly becomes affordable. You may have decided to marry someone practicing and all of a sudden an influx of attractive proposals from people who may not necessarily place the deen in high regards come your way.  You may have decided to give up your haraam job in order to work in a halal environment but then offers of a much better pay and working conditions in another doubtful position come your way.

I'm sure we can all relate in one way or another. These situations really test our will and our resolve. Think of it as a way of Allah testing whether you're really serious about what you've set out to do.  Whether you're willing to give up, sometimes perfectly halal, things to show your commitment. Whether you're willing to sacrifice your own happiness to achieve something greater.  As long as what you're doing is solely for Allah's sake, then, have full hope that Allah will replace that which you have given up with something far greater.

May Allah allow us all to give from our wealth that which we love to the poor & the needy, may He allow us to make the sacrifices necessary to gain knowledge for His sake alone, may He grant us firm resolve to give up the haraam for His sake alone and may He allow us to be firm when faced with tests of resolve. Ameen.
